Exercises for Relief from Kyphosis
A physiotherapist would recommend following exercises and stretches to strengthen the back and abdominal muscles in kyphosis:
Knee rolls
- Lying on the floor, bend the knees with feet flat on the floor.
- Knees would be moved slowly to one side until the back feels tense.
- Repeat five times on each side.
Pelvic tilting
- Lying on the floor, bend the knees with feet flat on the floor.
- Arching the back, keep the buttocks and upper back flat on the ground.
- Holding the arch for a few seconds return to a fully flat position.
- Repeat five times.
Knees to chest
- Lie down in the same position as the previous two exercises, bringing one knee up towards the chest.
- Clasping the hands around the knee, slowly pull the knee closer to the chest.
- Hold for some time, then release.
- Repeat five times on each side.
