Spine-Health At Work

We often ignore our posture, while sitting at one place for long working hours. It affects spinal health. More commonly it causes back pain, soreness, and neck strain.

How can I keep my back healthy at work?

Do you feel relaxed, sitting in one place and working for long hours?

But unfortunately, your body doesn’t enjoy it. Sitting in one position and working for 8 hours is exhausting and tiring for your body. Staring at computer screens for long hours causes muscle tension.

It can be eased out with healthy habits of taking breaks every hour and doing stretches. Light exercises not only improve spine health but, it is beneficial for your eyes and muscles.

What is important for spine health?

The spine provides support to your body. It is comprised of vertebrae and there is an intervertebral disc between each vertebra that has gel-like fluid, which makes the spine flexible.

The most important fact for spine health is to keep your spine upright and maintain gel-like fluid in between your intervertebral discs. For this purpose, you just need to do everything in a correct posture.

  • While working keep your knees at or below the level of your hips. Don’t cross your legs. Your ankles should be in front of your knees. Keep a small gap between the back of your knees and the front of your seat.
  • While standing, stand straight and tall with your shoulders back. Don’t cross your knees. Bear the weight primarily on ankles.

How can I improve my spine health?

A healthy change in lifestyle moves you one step forward to a healthy spine.

  • Stretch and strengthen the back.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.
  • Don’t Smoke.
  • Reduce or eliminate inflammatory foods.
  • Take care with heavy lifting.
  • Stay in motion.
  • Stand whenever possible.
  • Try yoga.
