Kyphosis Treatment

Kyphosis is an abnormal appearance of spine with a hump appearance of the back or “hunchback.”The normal spine has a series of curves when noticed from the side which help to better take up the loads applied to the spine from the body weight. The neck (cervical spine) and lower back (lumbar spine) have a normal inward curve that is referred to as lordosis. The upper back (thoracic spine) has a normal outward curve that is referred to as kyphosis. In affected individuals, a reduction of standard curve brings about a discrepancy with the spine.

Symptoms of Kyphosis

There are three main types of kyphosis i.e. postural, Scheuermann’s, and congenital. The most common type is a result of very poor posture for prolonged periods of times. With postural type no particular problem in the spinal column exists.

Scheuermann’s type describes a rise in the curve in the spine that isn’t associated with posture. Patients with this type can’t straighten up their spine purposely and it is most often identified in individuals between twelve to fourteen years old.

Kyphotic abnormalities of the spine at birth are referred to as congenital kyphosis.

Symptoms may include pain in back, muscle fatigue, and stiffness in the back. Most often, these symptoms remain constant and do not get progressively worse with time. But in more severe conditions, the patient may notice their symptoms worsening with time. The progressing kyphosis can cause a more exaggerated hunchback which in rare cases can lead to compression of the spinal cord with some neurologic symptoms like weakness, loss of sensation, or loss of bowel and bladder control. Severe cases of disease can also lessen the amount of space in the chest and cause cardiac and pulmonary problems leading to chest pain or shortness of breath with eventual respiratory or cardiac failure.

KKT Diagnosis

KKT diagnostic procedure starts off with a detail history of the disease, physical examination and 3D spine X-rays to have a comprehensive understanding of disease for devising the most appropriate treatment program.

KKT Treatment

Patients with posture bend are helped by assurance for the reason that their curve is not likely to advance and suitable healthy posture and vertebrae positioning are strengthened.

For individuals who may have agony or rigidity from kyphosis, KKT treatment along with an actual physical workout routine which includes primary muscle mass conditioning and aerobic exercise could be helpful. KKT treatment helps in physical rehabilitation and spine adjustment in affected individuals to deal with their own signs and symptoms of disease. This spine treatment offered by KKT Orthopedic Spine Centers may help reduce the signs and symptoms associated with postural and Scheuermann’s types, but don’t generally result in an alteration of the particular structure in the spinal column. Surgery may be needed for congenital kyphosis and more severe cases of Scheuermann’s kyphosis if no reduction in symptoms is seen with KKT treatment.
